The Story Behind The Stone

Emerald is derived from a Persian word meaning "green gem". It changed from Greek to Latin as smaragdus, then to esmaurde, esmralde, and in the 16th century to esmeralde. Emeralds are ancient gemstones. Pliny, the Roman scholar, was the first to suggest emerald was a family member of beryl.

Charlotte’s Commission

Charlotte approached me to help her create some earrings as a birthday present to herself. She adores the colour green, and with her birthday in May, making emerald her birthstone, it was the perfect choice of stone for her special gift. Charlotte’s passion for the natural world and love of mid-century jewellery styles inspired me to incorporate both these ideas into the designs. I also added diamonds so that there would be a little sparkle too, and, after sharing a number of drawings with Charlotte, the end result were these exquisite emerald and diamond flower earrings.
